Have you heard the news? Cirque du Soleil has declared bankruptcy. Another victim of Covid-19. I’ve been to one Cirque du Soleil show. It is such a happy memory for me; please let me tell you about it.
Four years ago, before I retired, my work sent me to Las Vegas for a conference. This was the first time I had ever visited Las Vegas. When the conference was over, Dan joined me, and we spent four more days there. This worked out great as Dan’s son, Danny – who is a professional poker player, lives in Las Vegas.
While there, we took an electric bike tour of Red Rocks Canyon National Conservation Area. It was really fun!

But it wasn’t the funnest thing we did. Danny had told us he had a surprise for us. I had no idea what it was, until we were driving to it. As we drove down the strip, I saw this:

At this point, I started singing, “I know what the surprise is. I know what the surprise is.” And I was thrilled.
Regular readers of this blog know I greatly enjoy the Beatles. Remember how excited I was to discover George Harrison’s sister’s house in Benton, Illinois while we were visiting Rend Lake. And later, I wrote about what I found out concerning George’s visit to Benton. Danny also knew how I love those Liverpool Legends, and I was touched by his very sweet and loving gesture.
The show was simply fabulous. It was an amazing mixture of music, circus acts, and athleticism. It was colorful and artful, and it was done in such a way that the mind could not comprehend what the eye was seeing. When the show was over, I had a lump in my throat at the magical beauty of it all, and all I could do was simply hug Danny. At that moment, that was the only way I could say, thank you.
Now with Cirque du Soleil declaring bankruptcy, the show is really over. At least for now. I am so glad I saw the LOVE Cirque show. It is such a special memory for me. Have you seen a Cirque show? If so, how did you like it? How I hope the company – and so many others – will somehow be able to recover, and one day be successful again. I would LOVE that.

I think I would have to interview Dan’s son as I was thinking of writing a short story with the main character being a poker dealer.

Well, he is a player, not a dealer.

Interesting job. I think of the long time Jeopardy winner: can’t remember his name who also played poker. Good for him.

I think you are thinking of James Holzhauer. He was a professional sports better. Smart guy! Danny is really smart, too.

Memories, making the most of the moments given to us, and being able to replay them over and over in our minds whenever we want, it’s just so fantastic. Glad you have such a wonderful memory to rewind and play whenever you want. Continue to enjoy your week.
