This is a picture of my daughter, Talia. Here she is in Joshua Tree National Park located in southern California. She likes to hike, and she has always loved climbing rocks!
Here, you might say she is between a rock and a hard place. But that’s not what I would say.
I would just say,
Talia Rocks!

Great photo! Are those limestone deposits? We visited a Joshua Tree forest in Nevada a few years back. There’s an
interesting story about how the Joshua tree got it’s name.

Thank you. I am not sure if they are limestone deposits. I haven’t ever been there. Talia went hiking there recently and sent me this photo. I looked up how the Joshua tree got its name. It is a beautiful tree. Can’t you just picture it as a silhouette with a sunrise/sunset in the background?

You might want to consider sending that name suggestion to both the Joshua Tree National Park admin offices, plus Talia’s local member of Congress. Decades from now people will talk about their time climbing the Talia Rocks area of Joshua Tree. 😉 – Marty

Love these pictures. I grew up in this area. 29 Palms, Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley. Have spent a many nights in that park. When I started going asa kid it was still a monument and not a national park yet.

Thank you! I haven’t been there, but my daughter has. They camped one night and slept out under the stars. I’d be in our camper! You are lucky to have visited there so often! Enjoy your day!

What a great picture!! My sister is a rock star hiker, too. She and her best friend thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2018. All on foot. Over 2100 miles from Georgia to Maine. I love hiking, but a couple of miles is good for me, ha ha. The rocks in your photo look amazing. We live like an hour and a half from Elephant Rocks. It’s pretty fun to climb there.

Thank you! Wow – your sister is very impressive! One of my favorite books is “A Walk in the Woods.” It is about hiking the Appalachian Trail. It is very humorous. And we LOVE Elephant Rocks. I’ve been there many times – even as a kid with my parents. My kids loved climbing on the rocks. I used to call them monkeys, they liked climbing so much. I wrote a post about Elephant Rocks when we camped at Johnson Shut Ins. There are so many great state parks here in Missouri!

Oooo, I’ll look that book up. Thank you. The last Appalachian Trail book I read was about Grandma Gatewood and her hikes. Love that you went to Elephant Rocks when you were a kid. Monkeys is funny. Kids sure love to climb. Oh my gosh, I LOVE Johnson Shut Ins- it’s like a mini Colorado. Yes, about our state parks. Love Missouri! Thank you very much. I started my art one because I just wanted to try art on my own, if that makes sense. Like to see if I could build a readership with my art, separate from my writing. Plus, there’s a history on that one with travel and family stuff. So, I have two. Haha. Thank you for subscribing. Means a lot.

I would have subscribed right away had I realized you still posted in it! I think you can do a lot with your art. It depends on what your goals are for it and how much time you want to put into it. Years ago, I did stained glass. I loved it,and I still do. I want to get back to it – once I finish my dollhouse. (I won’t let myself start something new without finishing that! Or at least get it to a near finished stopping point). Anyway. People offered to buy my work, and I could have started selling it. But then it felt like a job. So, I made a few things for myself, but mostly I made gifts. I got away from it when I went back to work full time when my kids got older. I do think you are very talented.

You make stained glass?? So did my momma. It’s such a beautiful art form. I’ve never tried it. I love that you’re doing a dollhouse. Thank you for thinking I am very talented, that means a lot to me. I can’t quite decide about selling online. I get really close to doing it, then I don’t. I have done 3 local craft shows though. I enjoy the face to face of that. There is another show here in October that I may do. Like you said about your stained glass, I mostly make gifts. I love giving gifts. Before the pandemic, I had an art club for local kids. They came to our house and I taught them how to make different things. I’m thinking about starting something like that up again. Or maybe even a class for moms…

It’s been a long time since I did stained glass, but I do hope someday to get back to it. The dollhouse is one I am redoing from my younger years. That is great that you’ve done 3 local craft shows. I would enjoy that. Where is the show in October? You could even do a class for mom and child. It sounds like you have lots of ideas! I love that!

Oh, that’s neat!! I think I saw some dollhouse posts when I was reading posts the other day. I’ll go back and find those. The show in October is in our tiny town. The local Women’s Civic Club puts it on to raise money for their yearly projects. I did their show last year. It was my first show. Loved it. Met many nice buyers and sellers. Oooo, good point about moms and child. Hadn’t thought of that. When you start stained glass again someday, let me know, I’d love to see it.

We are at Table Rock SP in mid-October, but I don’t think that’s near you. Otherwise, I’d try to attend the show. I love craft fairs. I have a “Dollhouse” heading on the top of the blog with all the dollhouse posts. Once we start camping, no more dollhouse work. 🙂
