Hi David. These are American Beauty Berries. The formal name is Callicarpa americana. We saw them at the nature center in Cape Girardeau, so I suspect they are a Missouri native.
Beautiful. Have you tried to use them in any recipes yet? Jelly? Or maybe wine? Given your creative side I bet you can come up with some tasty treats using them.
Well, these were at the nature center in Cape Girardeau, so I didn’t pick them. However, after reading your comment, I googled what could be made with these berries. It turns out you can make quite a number of things including: jam, jelly, flavored vodka, and a mosquito repellent! Perhaps I should plant some!
I thought they were really pretty and interesting. The color was so bright. They are called American Beauty Berries. The formal name is Callicarpa americana.
What are these beautiful berries, Betty?

I have seen these berries (or something similar) growing wild. I’ve never known what they are.
