Happy Birthday, Mom!

My mom holding her birthday cake.

Today, 12/31/2021 is my mom’s birthday! Today she is 99 years old! So, this week’s Friday Funny isn’t a laugh but rather a smile and a joy celebrating my mom.

We had a party for her on 12/27 at Orchid Terrace, where she lives. There were 18 of us there, including six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

I am lucky to have her for my mom and to still have her. Every day I pray she stays safe, is comfortable and feels loved. Because she is loved so very much!

  1. Happy birthday to your mom. My mom passed away 14 years ago, when she was 79 years old. Yes, you are lucky to still have your mom. I miss my mom always. I wish she could have met my twin granddaughters. She would have been over the moon in love with the girls.

  2. Ah Betty, I always knew we had something important in common. My mom’s birthday was also on December 31. We had many grand celebrations in the small prairie town where she lived until two months before her death in 1999. I think of her every day. Mothers are special in our lives. You are fortunate to have these annual birthday celebrations! Happy Birthday to your mom! Happy New Year to you!

    • What a nice surprise to have found that common link of mother’s birthday on 12/31! It’s an odd day to have a birthday I think. And yes, mothers are very special! I still hear things my mom said to me so long ago – things that made me a better person. I know we are fortunate, and I appreciate your Happy Birthday wishes for her. Happy New Year to you and yours! May 2022 be a wonderful year for you!

  3. Happy Birthday to your mom! I bet she can tell some amazing stories about things many of us have only read about. For instance, my grandmother, she lived to be 100, told me about gathering around a radio at school when Millard Fillmore was swore in as U.S. President. Happy New Year to you and Dan.

    • Thank you, David. I don’t know anything about Millard Fillmore as President. But now I know the swearing in ceremony was over the radio. And Google told me the Presidential Library is in Cleveland. Perhaps we will visit there someday! Yes, my mom has seen lots of changes in 99 years. Our family credits our Pentwater tradition to her; she started it all! Happy New Year to you and yours, too!
